Experimental study on flexural properties of timber columns with interior notches in traditional Japanese timber structures

Abstract In this study, the columns with interior notches in traditional Japanese timber frames were selected as research object, and static bending tests performed to investigate effect of on flexural properties columns. First, behaviors under three-point four-point load configurations compared obtain a suitable referenced strength column without notches. The reduction load-bearing capacity different types structures was determined through experimental statistical analysis. results indicated that mean three notch consistent those notches, continuous both sides had beneficial maintaining higher reducing stress intensity around notch. fracture position standard deviation affected not only by depth, but also width tensile side column.
